Vertical – Vol.3 – EP Review

A lean, mean, hard-rockin’ son of a bitch!

Vol. 3 is the second(!) EP from Spanish stoner rockers Vertical and it’s a lean, mean, hard-rockin’ son of a bitch with a hit rate of 100%. Favouring melody and classic construction, Vertical are content to let their songwriting do the talking and, fortunately for us, the songwriting is gooood!

This soulful crew has warm tones to temper the occasional Chris Cornell-esque screams and they have the ability to rock hard one minute, while being liquid gold the next. Balanced perfectly, it’s the likes of EP highlight “Acute” – a less aggressive appropriation of Alice-In-Chains at their most expressive – which provide the biggest thrills, while the up-beat free-for-all of “White Dust” is a simplified, high-tempo, bouncer which will shake the ‘white dust’ from your hair via its vigorous nature alone.

Vertical’s Vol.3 is high quality stoner rock / hard rock with great vocals, killer grooves and massive riffs and the whole thing amounts to tons of retro fun! What do we want next? Easy. A full length album please lads! 8/10

Vertical’s Vol.3 was released on January 14th 2019, nip over to bandcamp and have a listen for yourselves!
