WOORMS – Slake – Album Review

Skin crawling noise rock all the way from Louisiana.....

Nasty, sludgy, slightly groovy, definitely hot and sweaty and certifiably insane, WOORMS make quite the adventurous hubbub on debut album Slake and fans of Melvins, Swans, Sonic Youth, The Jesus Lizard and Neurosis will want to nose-dive straight into their stinky little cesspool!

Drenched in feedback (and all manner of off-kilter instrumentation) this is the sound of noise-rock taken to its extremes and is both an intense and yet perversely enjoyable ride. Harsh, abrasive, shouty and distorted, it should come as no surprise that Woorms hail from Louisiana, the home of sludge, and they have taken the blueprint laid down by the likes of EyeHategod and Acid Bath and tweaked it to suit their own means.

Misanthropic, pissed off and rather vocal about it, Woorms are a noisy little 3-piece with plenty to say. You should listen! 7/10

Slake, the debut album by WOORMS is officially released on 18th January 2019 via Hospital Records in the US and across UK/EU by Sludgelord Records.

  1. Chris, did you mean to say Melvins instead of Acid Bath? I hear a lot more Melvins-esque sludge structures than Acid Bath, for sure…plus the vocalist sounds like King Buzzo. Thanks for the Woorms tip!
