Destroyer Of Light – Hopeless – EP Review

It's not all hopeless you know!

Texan harbingers of doom Destroyer of Light rise again in 2018 with the release of their new EP, Hopeless.

Charting a suitably ominous journey into the dark heart of depression, suicide and drug addiction, Destroyer Of Light may sound depressing on paper but there’s a delicate touch at work here, one which turns to the light (just a little) to balance out the mournful from the melancholy….and, of course, it works!

Incorporating more melody than ever before, there’s still a lot of Messiah Marcolin-era Candlemass in their sound – and worshipping at the altar of Candlemass is no bad thing (hey, we all do it, right?!) – but with Hopeless, there’s ironically hope for Destroyer Of Light’s future as a band who can excel at classic sounding, epic doom metal.

Clean singing abounds, riffs churn and broil with heavy distortion and Destroyer Of Light have seemingly set their sights on new horizons. What comes next is sure to turn heads! 7/10

Hopeless was released on 11th May 2018 via Heavy Friends Records.
