Annihilator – Twisted Lobotomy – Single Review
Brain dance!
Annihilator are back and thrashing damn hard if “Twisted Lobotomy” is anything to go by!
We’re in Alice In Hell territory here as Jeff Waters and co shred as though their lives depend on it and they’re back sounding heavy, pissed off and showcasing the kind of technical audacity we all fell in love with in the first place.
This ‘ere is some proper thrash, some real late 80’s early 90’s shit and it’s a thrill to hear Annihilator cutting loose and smashing skulls again. They never were the heaviest band on the block, often preferring melody to brawn, but “Twisted Lobotomy” delivers both….and its a return to the sounds found on their genre-defining debut, Alice In Hell and its equally impressive follow-up, Never, Neverland.
On this evidence, Jeff Waters and Annihilator are seriously back on point and if 2015’s Suicide Society was a little soft for your thrash-addled ears, then “Twisted Lobotomy” will restore your faith in Canada’s thrash kings! 9/10
“Twisted Lobotomy” is the first song taken from Annihilator’s upcoming new album, For The Demented, is set for release on November 3, 2017 via UDR Music.
