Europe – Walk the Earth – Single Review

Walk on home boy!

Europe have been a world-class hard rock band for years now, returning in 2003 and building to the astonishing return to form that was 2009’s Last Look At Eden. The quality has just kept on comin’ ever since (2012’s Bag Of Bones was particularly impressive) and now we await the imminent arrival of album number 11.

In prime Deep Purple territory, “Walk The Earth” is an absolute epic, a spine-tingling clusterbomb akin to classic cuts such as Purple’s “Perfect Strangers”, Zeppelin’s “Kashmir” and Eclipse‘s recent “Black Rain” (check it out, it’s top class) replete with stomping riffs, orchestral flourishes, an Eastern feel and some suitably Jon Lord-esque keys to fully augment their sound.

The main riff is an out-and-out monster, the kind of deceptively simple crusher that makes rock fans go weak at the knees and Joey Tempest puts in as formidable a vocal performance as we’ve come to expect. If you haven’t realised that Europe’s glam past is well and truly behind them then “Walk The Earth” will be the song to truly convince you.

Walking the earth like champions, Europe are at the absolute top of their game and “Walk The Earth” signifies a band who could not give a flying fuck about prevailing trends, with heads held high they simply rock….and they rock harder and with more class than everyone else! 9/10
