If ever there has been a true Pop-Metal record then Addicted is it. It finds Townsend in absurdly buoyant form, matching a crushing riff with a soaring melody on virtually every track.

While the album takes cues from nu-metal groove in places  – “Universe in a Ball” – and borders on knowing kitsch in others – “Bend It Like Bender” – Addicted remains chock-full of great songs and totally devoid of filler.

Addicted also marks the first collaboration with rock super-MILF Annke Van Giersbergen, who shares the majority of the lead vocal parts and it’s great to hear “Hyperdrive” from the Ziltoid album reimagined with a female vocal.
