10 Unlikely Instruments Used To Push The Boundaries of Metal

They used what now?!

9. Accordion

The accordion is a difficult instrument to master, requiring players to constantly compress and expand bellows while simultaneously using both hands to push buttons and keys to get it to make its harmonious and romantic sounds.

Despite the fact the accordion originated in Germany, it is an instrument which is known for its association with the romantic French culture, not heavy metal; yet it has seen more widespread use in metal than one might think!

Folk metal bands from all over Europe (who will make quite a few appearances in this list) have employed the use of the accordion for many years and while the accordion is generally used as a backing instrument, it does occasionally take centre stage in long winded accordion solos. German folk inspired metal band Finsterforst have even gone so far as having a full-time accordionist in their line-up, due to their music featuring the instrument so frequently.
