Worship Metal Album Of The Week – Windswept – The Onlooker
Conceived by Drudkh mastermind Roman Sayenko in cooperation with two of his fellow band members, black metal force Windswept return with their second full length, The Onlooker, which is set for release via Season of Mist Underground Activists on February 8th 2019.
Raw, abrasive and, most importantly, authentic, this Ukrainian black metal powerhouse rattles through 7 tracks of semi-melodic, yet ever ferocious, black metal which builds on Drudkh’s penchant for beautifully crafted, strangely hypnotic and highly atmospheric sounds.
With minimal rehearsal and recording time, Windswept can be viewed as the black metal equivalent of grindcore improvisers Beaten To Death, with the band harnessing wrought emotion – fuelled by political turmoil – and digging deep into their psyche to deliver original material built on genuine instinct.
It’s still as frosty as fuck though, so don’t think Windswept have gone soft. Instead, The Onlooker is simply the manifestation of an inner monologue intent on honouring nature, history and folklore…set to the thrilling backdrop of black fucking metal! 8/10
Apparently Windswept do NOT give interviews, do not perform live, and do not provide band pictures…..just in case you were wondering!
