Virus – Defective Detective – Single Review

Go Go Gadget THRASH!

Source // Virus

Taken from the forthcoming full length release Evolution Apocalypse, “Defective Detective” sees UK thrash institution Virus back on the scene and armed with a killer new single….it’s just not one you might have expected!

Tighter than a nun’s chuff and laced with British humour, Virus may be renowned for the brutal Force Recon (1988) and the more refined Lunacy (1989) but “Defective Detective” is a different beast (or should that be cyborg detective!) entirely. Make no mistake, Virus are still a clinical thrash machine but this is one track that showcases a different side to a band normally credited with churning out a more brutal breed of high-speed thrash.

Bringing some fuckin’ fun back to ‘Frash’ (and don’t we need some fun right now!), Virus have delivered 6 mins of bouncy riffs with a sly wink to the more playful acts of the 80’s (no one say Anthrax) and it’s a delight to have new material from Coke Finlay and co. that sounds so fresh and revitalised.

“Defective Detective” is inspired lunacy from an original of the UK scene and Virus are back with a cartoon-bubble-sized BANG but don’t go expecting their forthcoming 4th album to be quite so playful….something tells us there will be more ferocity than ‘funnies’ when it lands in early 2017!

In the meantime, go go gadget thrash! 7/10
