Texas Murder Crew – Everyone’s Last Breath – EP Review
Take a deep one....
The fact that ex-Devourment guitarist Kevin Clark is at the heart of Texas Murder Crew should give an immediate (and satisfying) indication of the aural brutality that awaits those brave enough to savour the delights of their debut release, Everyone’s Last Breath. The lone star state is renowned for its single-minded approach to brutal death metal and while Texas Murder Crew largely adhere to the tried and tested ‘formula’, it’s worth noting that there’s more going on here than just the signature slam and blast approach.
This is prime savagery, that’s for damn sure, but there’s dynamics at work here that help keep the violence virulent and the brain engaged.
Unrepentantly vicious, sonically vivacious and lacking in neither sincerity or adventurousness, Everyone’s Last Breath is brutal death metal harnessed and then toyed with (bound, tortured and killed for want of a better analogy), resulting in songs you’ll be fully prepped for…..and some you won’t; such as the surprisingly nuanced and hardcore-inflected “Stronghold”, which closes the EP in considerable style.
Short, ultra-bloody and confrontational, Everyone’s Last Breath is brutal death metal, the Texan way! 7/10
Everyone’s Last Breath is due for release via Comatose Music on August 7th, 2020.
