Proll Guns – Fucking Trouble Maker – EP Review

Proll Guns new EP is causing....trouble!

Fucking Troublemaker is the subtly titled new EP from Austrian trio Proll Guns featuring Evil Ed on vocals/bass, The Burner on guitar and Cra-“Y”-maker on drums….one assumes these are not the band members real names(!)

The band claim to play “Western Thrash ‘N’ Roll” and while there are elements of Thrash in this EP it seems apparent that one of their biggest influences are the mighty Motörhead as there are definite nods to Lemmy and the boys in Proll Guns full throttle Rock ‘N’ Roll. As for the ‘western’ influence this only really appears in their lyrics and the odd wee burst of banjo here and there.

Musically there is plenty to admire, the riffs are suitably crunchy and dirty sounding and there are a number of surprisingly tasteful solos sprinkled through the three songs on offer while the drums barrel along nicely  – with shotgun-blasts of double bass –  which when combined with the guitars give the music a wagon-rolling groove. One major problem with this EP though are the vocal stylings of Evil Ed, who deploys a sort of half arsed growl which can be quite hard to take seriously and when combined with some ridiculously silly lyrics lets the overall quality down.

Ultimately this is not a bad release and there is nothing inherently wrong with their rambunctious, metal styled Rock ‘N’ Roll. Proll Guns definitely have potential, they just need to sort out those darn vocal issues. 6/10
