RazorRape – Orgy In Guts – Album Review

An Orgy In Grind!

Source // bravewords.com

As with all genres of metal, grindcore is not exempt from the sub-genres that pervade it. Often defined by stylistic variance, Sweden’s RazorRape have settled on a goregrind – borderline pornogrind – sound that’s highly abrasive, with the vocals being excessively guttural and completely indecipherable, yet still manages to stand out from the rest of the pack with the ‘top-notch’ quality of its guitar production.

Typically, goregrind releases are replete with sub-par recordings, highly indicative of the DIY ethic of the genre but this is not the case with Orgy In Guts. The songs possess somewhat of a sheen about them – don’t panic, there’s still plenty of grit and grime to the riffs – but one can hear and savour every note as RazorRape voraciously devour the tonal spectrum as the drums pummel you into submission with the snare cutting through the mix nicely.

With titles such as “Bonesaw Facefuck“, “Vomit Drenched In Mucus” and the punk-influenced “Hey Whore, Let’s Gore” (a blatant nod to the Ramones), you’d be right to expect the lyrical fare to be swamped in gore and sex and RazorRape don’t disappoint. Yet with the song “Grinding The Dead”, the band also show a prominent influence of straight-up brutal death metal which is lightly peppered throughout the album.

Truth be told, Orgy In Guts offers the listener a barrage of unapologetic gore/porno-grind with very little new ground being broken. That said, new ground doesn’t always need to be broken and Orgy In Guts would make a welcome addition to any grindcore collection. So, get buying! 7/10
