Danish power thrashers Artillery are back and Metal Blade have made available the first track from forthcoming album Penalty By Perception ; “Defiance Of Conformity”

Showcasing a vigour and a lust for the music they’ve been creating for nigh on 34 years now, Artillery sound fired up on “Defiance Of Conformity”, obviously running with the goodwill created by the return to form that was 2013’s Legions. The soaring, melodic vocals of Michael Bastholm Dahl are a perfect fit – his role in the band now cemented – and offer the perfect foil to Josua Madsen’s tumultuous drumming and the instantly recognisable riffing of Michael Stützer and Morton Stützer.

They may have more in common with Helloween at their heaviest nowadays but Artillery are still undeniably relevant; just don’t go expecting the heady heights of all time thrash classic By Inheritance, this band are now operating nearer the melodic end of thrash and have settled into a classic sounding groove that suits them well. 7/10
