Agvirre / Dead Cosmonauts – Eye Of Mirrors – Split Single Review

UK post metal experimentalists Agvirre and Dead Cosmonauts have teamed up for a split single release with ALL PROCEEDS from this digital release being donated to Sheffield Mind & Manchester Mind – a UK charity that provides advice and support to anyone with mental health problems, campaigning to improve services, raise awareness and understanding.

Review:

The shrieking, strings-accompanied, blastbeat-ridden upbeat storm of Agvirre‘s “The Letting Go” pairs the disparate influences of Bob Mould’s alt rock band Sugar with a deconstructed take on black metal and the results are surprising to say the least! Very much a unique proposition, Agvirre are an anomaly in the UK black metal scene and “The Letting Go” fully showcases their individual talent.

Dead Cosmonauts continue down a similar post metal path but amplify both the ambience and the riff-heavy ferocity with their sci-fi inflected, dark and cacophonous take on Vangelis’ “Blade Runner (End Titles)”.

Overall, Eye of Mirrors is an intriguing and worthwhile independent release from two exciting underground UK bands. 8/10

8″ vinyl available to pre-order through Do It Thissen Records from April.

Released: March 5th, 2021. Nip over to bandcamp and grab a copy!
