2. Ace of Spades (1980)
Taking into account the exhaustible amount of time some bands take to release albums, the fact that Motörhead released three(!) classics in just 18 months shows the unbelievable chemistry the band had at this point in their career.
Home to one of the best known songs in metal history – something about cards – it shows the sheer strength of the bands compositional skills that the remaining songs on this album never once pale in comparison.
From “The Chase Is Better Than The Catch” to the road dog anthem “(We Are) The Road Crew“ and the closing pummeling of “The Hammer”, Lemmy, “Fast” Eddie Clarke and Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor were on fire throughout.
The world doesn’t really need reminding that this is a masterclass in amphetamine-laced, full throttle rock ‘n roll….but we said it again regardless!
