Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard – Cithuula – Single Review

Source // Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard

The monstrously distorted riffing on Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard’s new single “Cithuula” – taken from their forthcoming album Y Proffwyd Dwyll due for release on 30th September – is as paramount to their sound as Jessica Ball’s haunting vocals….and together, they’re a match made in doom metal heaven.

Crushing all in their path, these Wrexham wizards are as delicate as they are devastating and “Cithuula” sees this unique band truly harness their huge riffs and ethereal vocals and deliver a song that has no right to be so catchy, so alluring and yet so sonically massive and supremely heavy. Addictive and utterly captivating, we found ourselves listening to “Cithuula” over and over again, fully immersed in the other-worldly atmosphere conjured via methods first honed by Sabbath over 45 years ago.

Fully traversing doom metal history, these extraterrestrials from planet doom are on a journey of discovery, unearthing new sounds from archaic trends and proving themselves to be the finest new doom metal band on the planet….just like we said back in February!

This outstanding band is on a trajectory to the stars, tethered by bowel-shaking riffage but lifted by those vocals. Where they go next is anybody’ guess! 9/10
