Monument Of A Memory – Catharsis – EP Review
For fans of Parkway Drive, Suicide Silence and Job For A Cowboy
Who’s up for some metalcore? No one? It really has become an over saturated market hasn’t it but fear not New Wave Of American Heavy Metal lovers (although it’s not so ‘new’ anymore), Monument Of A Memory are here to give a moribund genre a firm kick up the a-hole!
With a no-nonsense approach that works in their favour, there’s no time for emo bullshit as the endless barrage of machine-gun riffing and straight-up bruising metalcore – “Affliction” strikes particularly hard – batters you senseless and only on “Holdfast” do the expected clean vocals first rear their head….and they’re used sparingly, thankfully.
An all-out attack on the senses, the endless blitzkrieg of Catharsis betrays the bands tender years and it’s actually Monument Of a Memory’s undiminished and untainted youthfulness that brings this EP to life. That’s not to say there’s a lack of maturity here, far from it, but this is early adulthood angst and fears set to furious and utterly remorseless modern metal. There’s no way we’ll forget this one! 7/10
