Worship Metal Album Of The Week – Serpentine Dominion – Serpentine Dominion

It ain’t Killswitch Engage, it ain’t Cannibal Corpse and it certainly isn’t deathcore, so what the fuck is Adam Dutkiewicz (KSE) and George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher’s (CC) Serpentine Dominion? It’s seriously ball-crushing heavy fuckin’ metal that’s what!
Serpentine Dominion is the self titled debut from this supergroup of sorts and as far as debuts go this little beast has modern classic written all over it. Adam D has convincingly death-ified his more recognisable riffing style (his love for Scandinavian death metal hardly being news after all these years) while George….well, George is George; his inimitable vocals towering over the blazing blast-beats provided by Shannon Lucas (ex-The Black Dahlia Murder and All That Remains) that undulate beneath him.
With Adam D providing the clean vocals – and these do mesh with the gutturals particularly well – this whole endeavour is more than the sum of its parts with the songwriting on Serpentine Dominion proving exceptional throughout (that Killswitch dude doesn’t half know how to write a catchy as fuck riff). Our only grumble, it’s too short….just 26 mins! More please!
More melodic than Cannibal Corpse and heavier than Killswitch Engage, Serpentine Dominion are certainly their own entity and with Adam D specifically writing songs for Corpsegrinder’s recognisable growls, the overall synergy is effortless and makes you wonder why it’s taken this long for the two to team-up! 8/10
