Narthraal – Chainsaw Killing Spree – EP Review
Crank up that chainsaw, Iceland’s Naathral are on an old-school death metal killing spree that’s in thrall to the Boss HM-2 and the legends of the Swedish death metal scene.
Crusty, filthy violence emanates from the 2 tracks found on Chainsaw Killing Spree and while you’ve heard this a million times before there’s great satisfaction in hearing this classic sound appropriated by a new generation of bands. It works, it’s a winning formula so don’t fuck with it….and Narthraal adhere to that mantra faithfully. Fairly mid-tempo and enamoured with talk of death, dying and your imminent destruction, Chainsaw Killing Spree is over quick, it leaves a mark and has you itching for more.
Incidentally, Narthraal are currently preparing their first full-length album which will be released in 2017, via Inverse Records. In the meantime, this is your lot and Chainsaw Killing Spree is due for digital release – again via Inverse Records – on October 7th 2016 via all essential digital music stores/streaming platforms.
Buy it….or we’ll dust off our chainsaw and cut off your extremities! 7/10
