Infernäl Mäjesty – House Of War – Single Review

Source // Infernal Majesty

Infernäl Mäjesty, best known for their classic None Shall Defy debut from back in ’87, are back with the first song from forthcoming album No God….and these death/thrash pioneers are as wickedly rancorous as ever.

“House Of War’s” lethal combination of death and thrash may be defiantly old-school – a little like Sadus on their 2006 ‘comeback’ Out For Blood – with blinding speed jettisoned in favour of fearsome grind, scything solo’s and controlled aggression but this is still the Infernäl Mäjesty that majestically stamped their mark on the world almost 30 years ago.

The almost spoken-word chorus – featuring breathy growls bemoaning the futility of war – is far catchier than it has any right to be, with mid-tempo grooves and malevolent atmospherics reminding fans why they fell in love with this underrated band in the first place. Don’t fret, the thrash attack is still there! Just slightly reigned in, matured and fed through a funnel of insistent and impressive songwriting. “House Of War” certainly bodes well for album number 4, due for release later in the year.

“The beginning of the end” gargles frontman Chris Bailey, giving as forceful and varied an extreme metal vocal performance as ever. Not a chance, Infernäl Mäjesty are just getting started! 8/10
