Haema – Insurrection (Demos) – EP Review
For fans of Kill II This, Spineshank & Static X
An experimental, sample-infused, industrialised nu-metal sheen permeates through the two tracks currently available on Haema’s bandcamp page. Whilst not intrinsically linked to nu-metal’s fundamentals, there’s a definite nod to the early 00’s sound that ditched guitar solo’s in favour of raw emotion, down-tuned riffs and liberal use of electronics and these Northampton based crazies have a sound that should have across-the-board appeal.
Don’t be fooled by the demo tag, “Eden” and “Two Minds (Behind One Smile)” feel fully formed, glistening with a Fear Factory (more Digimortal than Demanufacture and as resolutely accessible as the former) meets Kill II This vibe that combines almost spoken-word vocals, abrasive growls and screams, crushing downbeat riffs and cauterised grooves capable of shaking the ground of any rock/metal club night.
Insurrection; dance to it, mosh to it….listen to it! 7/10
