6 Reasons Why Morbid Angel’s Illud Divinum Insanus Is Better Than You Think!

It can't be as bad as you think it is, right?!

There Are Some Really Good Tunes On Illud Divinum Insanus!

When it comes to Illud Divinum Insanus, people seem to focus almost exclusively on the negatives.

Those people do have a point.

Some of the forays into quasi-techno just don’t work and in the case of the oft sniggered at “Radikult”, a sound that was fresh for Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie 15 years earlier wasn’t exactly challenging anymore. Season of Mist, perhaps fearful of audience reaction, teased “Nevermore” as a lead single. No surprise, it’s perhaps one of the most ‘Morbid Angel sounding’ moments on Illud Divinum Insanus. It’s also one of the dullest.

But the story doesn’t end there.

“Existo Vulgore” is a really good song and Season of Mist obviously thought so too, as they sunk a lot of money into its video clip. “Blades for Baal” – same deal. But the real standout example of Illud Divinum Insanus’ death metal ‘hit single’ is “I Am Morbid” (rather unkindly dubbed ‘I Was Morbid’ by some basement dwellers).

Pig Latin notwithstanding the worst come committed by the ‘also ran’ songs (“10 More Dead”, “Destructos Vs. the Earth”) was to feel a little safe and staid. On the positive side though, they have a definite accessibility and massive of entertainment value. Frankly, we like Vincent’s sexual soap-operatics on “Beauty Meets Beast” and “Profundis – Mea Culpa” rocks like a 3-legged table.

So suck it!

About Stuart Bell (55 Articles)
I was born in 1975 with a pile of Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple vinyl next to my cot. I ate off a sheet of ply-board propped up between two Marshall cabs and shortly after I learned to read and write I learned the E minor chord and the pentatonic scale. One day my Dad bought me Iron Maiden's first album. Metallica's Ride the Lightning followed. Then, things got serious. I have held almost every rank in the Army of Heavy Metal: Fan, drunk fan, roadie, guitarist, producer and label scout. My Wife knows what Mastodon's Crack The Skye is about and my child can play Breaking the Law on piano. Go figure.
