The re-birth of nu-metal begins now! Love it or hate it, nu-metal was a world conquering force and some classic – mostly self titled – albums were unearthed during the era (System Of A Down, Korn, Slipknot, Around The Fur among others) and it’s eventual rise from the shadows was inevitable.
And so we come to Montreal’s Keychain (how achingly reverential is that name!) who’s sole aim is to resurrect this much maligned sub-genre and “Prime Time” is the first track made available from forthcoming debut EP, Breaking Out.
Singing, rapping, downtuned guitars….the fundamentals are all here and “Prime Time” is a nostalgic hug of nu-metal cliches (we mean that in a positive sense) that should put a smile on the (pierced) face of anyone who was immersed in the scene in its heyday. Channeling Sevendust, Korn and P.O.D, “Prime Time” simply let’s rip with huge choruses, heavy-ass riffs and enough aggression to “tear the skin off your mutherfuckin’ face!”
Beloved by many but black-sheeped by those who like to think they didn’t lose their shit to a Limp Bizkit track back in the late 90’s, nu-metal is back and Keychain could very well lead the charge! 8/10
In their first year alone, the independent Montreal, QC band has booked over 50 shows, an upcoming cross country North-American summer/fall tour plus will be releasing 3 music videos and 3 live acoustic videos by 2016’s end. Their upcoming debut EP Breaking Out, set for release on August 5th, is produced by award winning producer/engineer/mixer Glen Robinson who has worked with names such as The Ramones, AC/DC, GWAR, Annihilator and Voivod and mastered by Howie Weinberg (Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Limp Bizkit, Sevendust, Disturbed, Staind, Deftones, Chevelle, Soundgarden).
Teaming up with PureGrainAudio.com, Keychain reveal “Prime Time“, the first banger from the EP.
Vocalist JP Lachapelle comments:
It’s “Prime Time”! Your life, your choice, your rules. Cameras rolling & speakers exploding; let’s get this fucking party started. Choose your true religion & make your mark. Live free, love deep and die hard; that’s the Keychain creed. From Montreal to across the continent, this is the rebirth of NuMetal.”
Who are we to argue!
