Gorevent – Fate – Album Review

Pure, ragged and primitive.....

Fuck us in the ear-hole with something uncomfortably pointy if slam isn’t an annoying sub genre to review.

It’s fair to say that you know exactly what you’re going to get before you’ve even hit play and the thought of conjuring up new ways to describe unintelligible ultra low gutturals, mid-tempo rhythms, breakdowns, and palm-muted riffage is, quite frankly, exhausting.

So, we won’t bother. Instead, we’ll say this…..

Fate is a slam album from the “Japanese slam death kings” Gorevent.

It slams, hard.

It’s consistently brutal.

It’s ugly, as fucking sin.

We have no fuckin’ clue what the ‘concept’ may be based on the unintelligible lyrics alone so we’ll just lean on the press release that describes it as follows:

“In the twilight world of nuclear winter, where civilisation lies in ruins beneath a sunless, soot-choked sky and ashes drift like snow, the remnants of humanity have been reduced to mindless, feral beasts. Deformed mutants, their bodies ripe with tumours, wracked by the agonies of radiation sickness, their only aspirations to kill, eat and shelter from the eternally chilling cold.”

SAVAGE!

So, there you go. As far as slam death albums go, this is decent enough stuff but nowhere near in the same league as Devourment etc. If you love the sub-genre, you’ll get a kick out of it. The rest of us will probably choose to stay well away! 6/10
