Antichrist – Pax Moriendi – Album Review

You will never see sun light!

Crawling out of the Peruvian underground in 2004, Antichrist may have stalled in delivering their message (10 years in fact!) but a steady stream of demos between 2014 and 2016 announced the arrival of a funeral doom meets death/doom powerhouse! Pax Moriendi is now the full length album which greets any intrepid traveller brave enough to crawl under the dark yet diverse canopy of Antichrist’s smothering sound…..and it’s a trip worth shattering your knees for!

With rumbling unintelligible gutturals operating as Satan’s mouthpiece, the majority of Pax Moriendi is horrifying stuff, tumbling from humanity’s knife-edge precipice into everlasting torment via crushing doom riffs and death/doom’s palpably morbid atmosphere.

Grinding repetition plays a massive part in Antichrist’s hypnotically ghoulish sound, with an all-encompassing sense of dread and despair tempered only by ambient sections of melancholic subtlety. With five songs traversing 45-minutes of repugnant, yet resplendent, extreme metal, Pax Moriendi may require a strong stomach.

However, those with a taste for the likes of Thergothen, Skepticism and Unholy will want to gorge on this impressive album for days! 8/10

Pax Moriendi was released on March 9th, 2018 via Iron Bonehead Productions.
