The seeds of what would eventually become a fully-fledged sub-genre in itself were sown by Quorthon in 1988 on Blood Fire Death and emerged fully grown on 1990’s Hammerheart.

In just 2 short years, Quorthon completely altered the Black Metal landscape – arguably before it had even begun – and ushered in the era of Viking Metal, a sound that in 2015 is arguably stronger than ever, with bands such as Amon Amarth and Enslaved achieving mainstream acceptance 25 years later!

Quorthon’s vision was so strong and so focused that it comes as no surprise that he left Black Metal behind so quickly!

About Chris Jennings (1976 Articles)
I love metal. Always have. Always will. As editor of Worship Metal - a site dedicated to being as positive about metal and its myriad of sub-genres as possible - my aim is to 'worship' metal through honest reviews, current news and a wide variety of features; offering the same exposure to underground bands as we do to mainstream/well known acts. Our mantra; the bands are partners and we exist to serve the bands \m/
