6 Reasons Why Morbid Angel’s Illud Divinum Insanus Is Better Than You Think!
It can't be as bad as you think it is, right?!
Illud Divinum Insanus Is Still A Heavy Record….So What’s Your Problem?
Heavy Metal folks. The clue’s in the title and Illud Divinum Insanus is a solid heavy metal record and we put it to you that if it had been released by a band you had never heard of before – say Exploding Goat, Eviscerated Health Inspector or Total Destruction Dispenser – you’d have thought it was badass. After all, for better or worse, parts of it sound quite unlike anything else.
As an entry in Morbid Angel’s canon, Illud Divinum Insanus certainly wasn’t what we were expecting. There is far less of the chaotic, rule breaking (read ‘doesn’t understand modes’) guitar playing, less occult mumbo jumbo and Tim Yeung’s hyper-processed drum sound isn’t to all tastes. But is it really any lighter on substance than 2003’s anaemic Heretic or the utterly forgettable Kingdoms Disdained?
Personally we think it’s better.
At the end of the day it’s a metal record with some bitching guitar riffery, a bullish, sneering vocalist and some outlandish lyrics that gave you all something to talk about and, just for a while, it kept you entertained.
Just give Illud Divinum Insanus one more listen before stoning us to death for disagreeing.
