The Blackening was voted our greatest Metal album since 2000 and Machine Head have managed to release a record that very nearly matches it.

Bloodstone & Diamonds continues Machine Head’s trend for writing huge riffs, complex song structures and anthems built for mass consumption.

“Now We Die” and “Ghosts Will Haunt My Bones” rival previous bangers “Locust”, “Imperium” and “A Thousand Lies” in the epic ferocity stakes.

Elsewhere, “Game Over”, a vitriolic spat at a former band member (naming no names), is a modern Thrash song par excellence. All bullish intent and no charm and exactly what you’d expect from a Heavy Metal band unafraid to speak the truth.

Machine Head’s meteoric rise to the very top of the Metal hierarchy continues unabated and with albums as impressive as Bloodstone & Diamonds in their arsenal, they’re sure to be headlining arenas in no time.
